The overall aim of the project was to promote intercultural dialogue and acceptance of diversity. In four countries, we supported local organisations and networks that take action against negative stereotypes, prejudice, racism and xenophobia through grassroots initiatives and local community actions.
In the first phase of the project, participants learnt about campaign techniques that can be used effectively in the fight against racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism.
Following this, each participating country designed its own campaign as part of a workshop.
Roma youths from 25 towns and villages across the four countries (Bulgaria, Denmark, Hungary and Germany) carried out a total of 25 local campaigns. All campaign activities took place almost simultaneously in each location as part of the European campaign. Following their implementation, the participants summarised their experiences at an international meeting in Budapest.
The campaign was supported by the European Commission and the Open Society Institute’s Roma Decade Programme.
