The aim of this four-year initiative, implemented across four countries (Hungary, Spain, Romania and Bulgaria), was to reduce early school leaving among disadvantaged young people and improve their prospects in the labour market. The programme sought to equip participants with marketable knowledge and the skills necessary for long-term success.

The programme provided support to pupils in Years 7 and 8 of primary school, those in vocational training, as well as young people who had already dropped out of education or who had qualifications but were unable to find employment. Taking into account the characteristics of these young people, we selected activities and training courses for them which, on the one hand, helped them to choose a trade or training programme, armed with the necessary information, in fields where high-quality job opportunities would await them, and, on the other hand, through mentoring, skills development and labour market training, we helped them to complete their studies and apply for suitable jobs in a well-prepared and successful manner.

In addition to all this, the programme also involved educational institutions and employers: we offered opportunities for the mutual exchange of needs and experiences, and provided methodological support and teacher training for schools, whilst preparing employers to integrate young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The programme was implemented in four cities in Hungary (Miskolc, Hatvan, Gyöngyös, Budapest) – with support from the EEA and Norway Grants and the Velux Foundation – and in three cities in each of the other countries.
